Longport, Stoke-on-Trent. ST6 4NB Staffordshire UK
Frivolity is a unique 54ftx 12ft cruising barge designed by Tony Tucker and built to MCA standards in 2003. She was modelled on Esperance, a 19th century steam launch and spent a number of years on Lake Windermere before moving to the Thames for a short spell. She is now offered for sale at Longport Brokerage and can be seen afloat, though this is a narrow canal.
Attractive external styling is complemented by an excellent specification and some very nice traditional joinery on the inside. The layout and equipment provide for comfortable living aboard or extended cruising. At the heart of this boat is a fine old Gardner 6LW diesel, reconditioned and perfect for this style of boat. The Sliepner bow thruster makes manoeuvring a pleasure. Frivolity is gas free and an 11kVA Onan generator provides plenty of electricity for cooking, etc. This is backed up by a 1500W sine wave inverter.
There is a comfortable stern wheelhouse for the helmsman, seats for the crew and a folding table for dining. There is also a wide wrap-around external stern seat behind the wheelhouse.
