1904 SAILING TJALK 15.4m (50 feet)
A classic ex-working tjalk with a huge amount of character, fully capable for sailing, and converted to a high standard in Holland believed to be completed in the late 1980s.
Vrouw Aaltje Frisian Mole originally moved cargo from the Netherlands to Belgium, before spending time moored in Paris.
In 2014 she set sail from Holland to England where she was then moored on the River Thames.
She has an iron hull and steel superstructure, an ample foredeck, and a good size rear deck, with beautiful details and teak/iroko seating, tiller control and access to well-kept engine room.
She is a fully capable sailing (inshore below F5) tjalk with a hollow laminated elm mast and boom and a full battened modern set of sails, although not sailed by us or others in recent years.
Her sailing past and adventures are evidenced by the many regattas and passage racing plaques and badges mounted on the cabin walls inside.
We added ‘Frisian Mole’ to her original name on the boat register to reference her home and a nod to adventures away from home as in ‘Wind in the Willows’.
Descending the wooden steps from the rear deck you enter the galley with a varnished interior and a timber boarded ceiling over the bar counter and side cabinets and shelves.
Cooking is with gas stove, and there is a fridge and wine fridge, sink, cutlery and pan drawers.
The cabin lounge is warmed by a diesel stove that has a back boiler supplying radiator distribution to the cabins and bathroom and through to a hot water calorifier with immersion mounted in the stern engine bay.
There is a diesel generator placed on the foredeck before the mast to provide power for hot water or TV and sockets when voyaging between shore power connection.
The bathroom has a Baby Blake ‘Gosport’ toilet and a cassette toilet with shower over bath and the traditional fold down china boatman sink cabinet.
The forward cabin with reduced headroom has three births and so with the double cabin she has five births overall.
The bow has a stowage area under the foredeck hatch for anchors, sails trolley and tools.
The 82 HP 4-cylinder Thornycroft diesel drives a bronze prop, with cavitation deflector over.
She had an out-of-water full survey with blacking, new anodes and topside painting in 2023.
The survey is available on enquiry, along with the necessary Boat Safety Certification.
Last year she has been cruised on the Thames and the Kennet and Avon Canal, where she is currently located.
