Bradford on Avon Wiltshire UK|
Wilhelmina was our pride and joy, we took her from a dilapidated hull to a fully fitted beautiful home, I am a steel boatbuilder so I built the decks and cabin then using my contacts fitted the inside, we didn't do this as a 'do up and sell' boat so everything was built with that little extra care,
she was built in 1886 as part of celebrations surrounding the then queen of the Netherlands Wilhelmina, originally a sailing vessel. a little is known of her history but in the 60s she was overplated and re engined in chatham docks - this is speculation but I believe it was done using steel reclaimed from naval use as the hull shows very little sign of any corrosion in the last 60ish years! the engine a Gardner 4lk was of the type used in midget class subs during the war and as they were being broken at the same place and time I can only imagine that she has an ex submarine engine!! one of only 40 built. ( having had an extensive professional rebuild this year)
the batteries are fairly recent, good big modern batt charger, solar system, cassette toilet, instant gas water heater, beautiful jotul range, led lights, lots of ropes, anchors mooring pins etc.
the sailing rig is incomplete but there are enough of the components to either re use or use as patterns. this was the next job on the list but.....
we now have a family. we needed more space and a settled life for a bit so have outgrown her!
she is 45' x 10'6" but as she is more 'boat' than a standard wide beam narrowboat its comfortable for a single person or a couple, (we lived on her for about 8 years )
I will add more pics soon,
do call to arrange a visit or ask questions, I am however very busy so don't be offended if I take a while to get back to you, texts are good she is located in Bradford on Avon
still bits and bobs being done to her before she goes on her merry way with new owners, I have just had the sign writing done for instance.
