More pictures of outside on the way! Finch is a 50' scaled down replica of a thames sailing barge, built in 1994 by Delta Marine of Warwick. She was built to a very high standard, with a 12mm thick baseplate, 6mm sides and a 4mm coachroof. A proper sailing barge, she has never been rigged but was designed to sail and has sheet horses, tabernacles, chainplates and pivots for leeboards fitted should a new owner want to rig her, although she has a draft of only 3' or so and would navigate most inland waterways just fine. One of a cargo fleet that at the turn of the 19th Century once numbered over 2000, Reminder is one of a handful of Thames Sailing Barges that has survived. Since 1975 she has earnt her living as a charter vessel for 12 guests and still takes part in the annual Thames Barge Races. A 80ft engineless, wooden Thames Sailing Barge, 1881. Registered in Rochester, Kent. 1882. Built for carrying a cargo of bricks from Medway to the Thames. She crossed the Channel over to France and Holland, around the coast as far south as Southampton and Devonport. Re surveyed in dry dock June 2024, all was found to be in good order. She was at this time re-antifouled. George Smeed has been completely rebuilt / restored over last 30 plus years. Xylonite: has been laid up for a year or so, through Covid times in West Dock London. An 87ft Steel and Iron hulled Thames Sailing Barge with Bowsprit. Built in 1926 by F.W. Horlocks of Mistley, Suffolk. She has been kept in sailing condition, and has until recently retained an Exemption Certificate, for carrying up to 12 Guests, when sailing. At 42ft, Cygnet is a half sized wooden sailing barge. After several years of continuous sail cruising, she has been bought into a Barge Boatyard in North Essex. Her present owner has decided to sell her, the hold has ben cleared out , the engine has been removed, she's now presented as a blank canvas for a refit / rebuild......A new rudder has been made and is to be re-fitted.
